Case 6

Description: A tense moment in the Farben dock following the conviction of Carl Krauch, leading defendant among twenty four officials of the giant I.G. Farben combine who were indicted for war crimes. Defense attorney Dr. von Rospatt is shown pointing out a passage from the court transcript to his client in which the Tribunal stated: "It was Krauch's task to examine labor allocation in the chemical industry. Therefore, we are of the opinion, that he could not be without knowledge that inmates of the Auschwitz concentration camp, and forced workers also, had been used to work at the Auschwitz construction ground of Farben."

Krauch was found guilty on count three of the indictment (using foreign nationals and concentration camp inmates as slave labor) and was sentenced to a prison term of six years. Imprisoned since September 3, 1946, the Tribunal allowed him credit on time already spent in custody. White-haired Hermann Schmitz is seated next to Krauch. [Original Descriptive Caption]
