As the head of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit of the Manhattan District Attorney's office, Linda Fairstein wrote a detailed account of the changes in treating rape victims in New York County. 

Of equal interest is her observation that when she began working in the District Attorney's office in 1972, there were only 7 women lawyers on the staff of 160. 

In contrast, by 1993 more than half the attorneys were women.
