New York State Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau has been influenced and inspired by a Supreme Court Justice: Justice Harry A. Blackmun. Judge Pfau's husband's grandfather was instrumental in securing a position for Justice Blackmun as Counsel to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota very early in his career. The families remained lifelong friends and Justice Blackmun presented new-lawyer Pfau with this signed photograph at a reception in his honor in 1987.
