Barbara Aronstein Black, Professor and Dean
A graduate of Brooklyn College and Columbia Law School, Barbara Aronstein Black became the first woman dean of an Ivy League law school in 1986, shortly after joining the Columbia faculty in 1984.
During her deanship, the faculty approved innovative changes to the first year curriculum.
After stepping down as dean in 1991, she continued teaching and researching her favorite subjects, American legal history and contracts.
